About HSM

Our work grew out of the Maryland Horse Council’s early efforts to track the competition results of sport horses born in Maryland. Maryland Sport Horses compete successfully at the highest level of every equestrian sport discipline — English and Western, mounted and in-hand – and at every level of competition – from local schooling shows to the Paris Olympics.

Our work was also inspired by the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP), a Maryland non-profit with the mission of increasing demand for retired racehorses in equestrian sport. In addition, we met with Horse Sport Ireland’s Director of Breeding, Innovation & Development in Dublin and the Irish Equine Center in County Kildare. The Irish horse industry is strikingly similar to that of Maryland.
